Pardon the Hiatus (+ a Photo Shoot!)
Wow, it's been a long time since I've (Megan) said hello! I really have no excuse, but my sister has done a lovely job with inspirational outfits in the meantime--I really could learn from her.
As a re-entry into the blogosphere, I thought it would be fun to show a sneak peek at a photo shoot I was gently coerced into doing during my Arizona visit last weekend.
Yes, the hippie above is me. My talented friend Ashley Beaudin is entering the world of professional photography and up until last weekend hadn't tried a shoot with a model (or rather, someone pretending to be a model). She's done a lovely job capturing families, engaged couples and photojournalism-type pictures, but her creativity had full reign here, and she did a great job.
To be honest, when she told me she was sticking me in the desert dressed as a "Colorado-inspired hippie," I was skeptical. Even more so when we went thrifting and she stumbled upon my outfit. See below:
It was thick. I felt like I was putting on a carpet. It also took away any shape I had. But I trusted her because she seemed confident.
I was skeptical for more reasons than the formless dress I had to wear, though. I also knew that neither of us had much experience with doing makeup, and I couldn't promise that my hair would do what she envisioned. In fact, I had little confidence that my face would cooperate either.
"I'm going to be awkward. I hope you know that. I'm sorry if I'm just really awkward."
When I'm supposed to be serious in front of a camera I end up doing this:
But I just told myself to look at the camera and NOT try any seductive modely faces. I figured that could only go badly. Surprisingly, taking my own advice turned out well.
Sadly, I don't look like a smoky-eyed hippie in real life. I suppose I could work on that.
It's good to be back! Looking forward to returning with the rest of the photo shoot. Have you ever been in one? I recommend you do it at least once!
